Ernest Edward Galpin, South African botanist and banker (Grahamstown today Makhanda, Eastern Cape Province 06 December 1858 –Namboospruit today Mookgophong, Limpopo 16 October 1941)
Authored the first comprehensive account of high-altitude flora of South Africa
A contribution to the knowledge of the flora of the Drakensberg. Report South Africa Adv. Science (1908)
Performed botanical collections not only in South Africa but in Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Namibia being the first person to collect in Swaziland
Discovered and collected valid half a dozen of genera and more than 200 new species of plants (1888-1939)
