Warwick Estevam Kerr, Brazilian entomologist and geneticist (Santana do Parnaíba, São Paulo State 09 September 1922 – Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo State 15 September 2018)

From Scottish descent

Internationally recognized as the foremost expert on bees genetics  

Authored 247 papers (until 2007)

Obtained important discoveries in bee genetics and sexual determination

Discovered the genetical mechanism that rules the casts in genus Melipona (1950)

Obtained the hybridization of the African and Italian bees known as Africanized honey bee (1950s)

With H. Esch & I. Esch. Sound: an element common to communication of stingless bees and to dances of the honey bees. Science 149:320-1, 1965

With R.A. Nielsen. Técnica para aumentar, diminuir ou modificar a alimentação de alvéolos de cria de meliponídeos. Cien. Cult. 118:33-4, 1966

With G.A. Carvalho and V.A. Nascimento developed Uberlândia beehive, a cubic rational beehive (1996)
