Juan Enrique Mac Kinnon Artagaveytia, Uruguayan medical mycologist (Montevideo 24 June 1904 – Montevideo 16 April 1987)

ACHIEVEMENTS 

Demonstrated that cell wall of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis was much thinner than that of Blastomyces dermatidis (1940s)

Proposed the existence of subclinical forms of paracoccidioidomycosis

First to detect infection caused by paracoccidiodomycosis (1953)

Proposed the currently accepted course of events in paracoccidioidomycosis (1959)

Demonstrated the various responses at distinct temperatures in paracoccidioidomycosis and sporotrichosis

With I.A. Conti Díaz first to note actinomycetoid granules surrounded by a crown of eosinophilic clubs in Pseudomonas  aeruginosa (1969)

With Gezuelle & Conti Díaz noted a bulky capsule in cells of Phialophora spinifera until then undescribed (1973)

With R. Talice described the both fungal species Penicillium bertai 1929 and Aspergillus montevidensis 1931

With Ferrada Urzua & Montemayor described Madurella grisea, a new agent of maduromycosis (1949)
