Baij Nath Singh, Indian protozoologist and microbiologist (Varanasi 31 July 1914 – Lucknow 29 December 1985)

Showed that some aerobic free-living amoebae could cause fatal human meningoencephalitis

Demonstrated that avirulent strains of Entamoeba histolytica could be made virulent by feeding them with cholesterol in culture

Made significant contributions to the phenomenon of cystations showing the role that amino acids and cAMP play in process
