Antonio Alves de Noronha, Brazilian civil engineer (Teresina 16 September 1904 – Rio de Janeiro 18 June 1962)

Worldwide respected as an authority in reinforced concrete

Designed and leaded the building of nearly 2000 works

Designed the world’s biggest arc with intermediate stage at the bridge over Rio das Antas, 186 meters (1952)

Designed the world’s biggest prestressed elliptic shell without ribs in games room dome of Hotel Quitandinha, Petrópolis (1943) 

Honored with Honoris Causa title from ETH of Zurich in commemoration of institution centennial (1955)
