Flávio Oliveira Ribeiro da Fonseca, Brazilian zoologist (Rio de Janeiro 12 October 1900 – São Paulo 22 May 1963)

Brother of mycologist and parasitologist Olympio da Fonseca

Obtained international recognition for his studies on acarology

Authored about 130 works

Demonstrated Rickettsia brasiliensis transmission by ticks  

Proposed an original technique for distinguishing specifically between Leishmania sp. and Leptomonas sp. (1932)

Improved techniques of preparing anti-tetanus serum  and other immunotherapeutic products

First to verify the conservation of the yellow fever virus by inoculation in the testicles of cat or Ctenomys in C.R.Soc. Biol. Paris (1938) & Mem. Inst. Butantan 12 (1938)
