Joaquim Monteiro Caminhoá, Brazilian physician and botanist (Salvador 21 December 1836 – Rio de Janeiro 28 November 1896)

Designed an adjuvant inhaler

Sobre aparelhos anestésicos e, particularmente sobre um inalador adjuvante para os casos operatórios em que não houver cirurgião ajudante (1864)

Performed studies in medical botany

Predicted the existence of penicilin in his book Elementos de botânica geral e médica (1877)

His thesis “Plantas tóxicas do Brasil” (1871) was translated to French (1880)

With D. Freire Jr. patented conservation of fresh products employing an antiputrid gas (1888)
