Manuel María Velasco Suarez, Mexican neurosurgeon (San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas State 28 December 1914 – Ciudad de Mexico 02 December 2001)

Authored over 400 works and 6 books

With F. Escobedo Ríos described a syndrome in Neurological deficits after severe head trauma (1969)

Injected local atropine and later L-dopa through stereotactic surgery being maybe the first in situ implantation of neurotransmitters into the basal ganglia (1970)

Improved pallidotomy in the treatment of some dyskinesies (1959)

Improved surgical techniques for treatment of intracranial tumors and encephalic vascular malformations

Developed and/or improved surgical and clinical treatment for brain cysticercosis  

Designed an encephalotome (1957) and apparatuses for stereotactic surgery
