World authority on dielectrics and Costa Ribeiro effect

Authored nearly 200 publications   

One of the first in the world that extended and melt monocrystals to study charges release

First to note the appearing of electrical charges during a solid sublimation

Observation of the Costa Ribeiro effect in the process of sublimation of para-phenilene diamine. Anais Acad. Bras. Ciencias 26:345-8, 1954

Showed that heat transmission through a fluid dielectric was intensely affected by the action of electric fields known as electrothermal conductivity effect or Mascarenhas effect (1955-6)

Showed that the irradiation of bone and teeth produces paramagnetic centers in their inorganic components (1971) and that these centers can be used for dosimetry of radiation
