Afranio Pompilio Bastos do Amaral, Brazilian herpetologist (Belém 12 January 1894 – São Paulo 29 November 1982)

Gained world renown in herpetology and zoological nomenclature

Created the term solenotodont for a kind of maxillary dentition in snakes

Reported the first case of necrophilism among snakes in scientific literature
