Arthur Neiva, Brazilian medical entomologist and sanitarian (Salvador 22 March 1880 – Rio de Janeiro 06 June 1943)

ACHIEVEMENTS

Authored 165 works (until 1940)

His works on fighting the coffee borer drew the attention of many countries

Gained international recognition for his contribution to prevention of syphilis and works on malaria 

Discovered that malarial hematozoon developed resistant forms to quinine  anticipating Nocht (1910)

Demonstrated transmission of Chagas disease by many Triatoma species and the trypanosome pass through intact mucosa in animals 

Laid down general rules of biological cycle of Triatomidae

Elaborated a Sanitary Code that served as a basis for new codes in Brazil and abroad

Elucidated the complete life cycle of botfly
