Trajano Augusto de Carvalho

Trajano Augusto de Carvalho, Brazilian naval engineer (Florianópolis 25 August 1830 – London 09 April 1898) Co-designed (with Samuda Brothers) battleships Riachuelo (1881) and Aquidaban (1883), whose models were copied in England and United States and were among the most advanced battleships in the world INVENTIONS An improved floating buoy or beacon. Mech.Mag. 1779:250, 1857 Conceived a new design for ship’s keel that provided minor resistance to movement (1868). He patented it in many European countries. It is said that British hydrodinamicist William Froude tested and approved the invention. The Trajano ship’s keel drew with prominence in Universal Fair of Wien (1873). Despite these facts the invention was forgotten some time after.    With E.M. Tygna da Cunha patented immersed floaters obviating hydraulic foundations (1879) Invented a system of floating docks (1890), that he didn’t patented it.  HONORS Medal of Merit, Wien Fair (1873)
