Biography

Dezhao Wang or Te-Tchao Ouang, Chinese acoustic physicist (Guanyun County, Jiangsu Province 20 December 1905 – Beijing 28 December 1998)

Recognized as world expert on shallow-water acoustics

Performed discoveries on the equilibrium between big and small ions of suspended particles in gases; the numbers of big small ions and the mobility of small ions gave rise to Langevin-Ouang-Bricard theory (1934-40)

Authored important papers on the mode filtering of sound fields

With Tianfu Gao authored important studies on effects of internal wave on the underwater sound propagation (1982)

Improved sonar

Invented high sensibility electrometers

DEVELOPED

An acoustic system capable of dispersing the heavy fog on military airports

With E. Montel & P. Pannetier. Sur un electrométre monofilaire de grand sensibilité. J. Phys. Radium 14(1):627-9, 1953

Bottom-Fixed Underwater Acoustic Surveillance System

His brother, Dexi Wang or Teh-si Wang, chemical engineer (Guanyun County, Jiangsu Province 21 September 1913 – Beijing 08 August 2006)

Obtained the first thermosetting plastic in the world (1949)
