Juan Luis Guiteras y Gener, Cuban pathologist (Matanzas 04 January 1852 – Matanzas 28 October 1925)

Professor of Medicine in Medical College of South Carolina (1884-8) and Professor of Pathology in University of Pennsylvania (1889-99)

Expert on yellow fever

Developed new research methods in tropical pathology

Studied a mycological disease named chappa known as Guiteras disease

Authored Notes upon the lectures on General and Special Pathology with many editions

Eponym of Guiteras sign in yellow fever and Guiteras sign for pseudoblastomycosis

HONORS

First Prize for his thesis The Development of the skeleton as influenced by functional activity at University of Pennsylvania (1873)
