Biography

Kun Huang, Chinese physicist (Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province 02 September 1919 – Beijing 06 July 2005)

Authored over 50 papers and 5 books

First to predict diffuse x-ray scattering due to crystal defects known as Huang scattering (proved in 1960s)

Discovered the coupled vibratory modes between optical vibration and the electromagnetic field (concept of polariton)

Proposed phenomenological equations to treat the long wavelength optical vibrations (Huang equations)

Developed a theory of radiative  and non-radiative multiphonon transition processes associated with lattice relaxation (Huang-Rhys factor)

First to discover the coupled vibrations modes between optical vibration and the electromagnetic field

With Max Born developed Dynamical Theory of Crystal Lattices

Eponym of Huang-Pekar theory and Born-Huang approximation
